Brownsville Mayor

Brownsville Mayor Web BanksMayor Webb Banks graduated from Webb School, Bell Buckle, Tennessee. He holds a Batchelor of Science degree in business from the University of Memphis, and served in United States Air Force from 1955 until retirement as Lieutenant Colonel in 1977.

Mr. Banks operated Banks Railroad Salvage Furniture and Appliance Store from 1977 - 1994. He was elected Mayor, City of Brownsville in June, 1994, then re-elected in June 1998, June 2002 and June 2006

Mayor Banks other activities and awards include:

  • Recognized as Man of the Year, 1996
  • Received American Hometown Leadership Award, 1996

  • Received the Tennessee Municipal League Distinguished "Mayor of the Year" Award, 2006

Mayor Webb Banks lists as his overall goals for Brownsville:

  • Provide the best service at the lowest cost
  • Develop and implement programs which will enhance the growth of the City of Brownsville
  • Provide facilities and activities to insure an excellent quality of life for all citizens

And as his goals for 2006-2007:

  • Promote the best city services at the lowest possible cost.
  • Plan, develop and promote retail economic growth at Exit 56 on I-40 and The Village Shopping Center, East Main Street
  • Enhance and implement measures to promote more tourism for Brownsville and Haywood County
  • Upgrade and beautify downtown area and become one of the state's designated Main Street Projects
  • Work closely with existing industries, recruit new industry and distribution facilities
  • Develop and promote a large farmer's market for the Brownsville area
  • Continue to explore methods and funding to obtain a large recreation lake for Brownsville/Haywood County
  • Develop a program to encourage a broad base citizens input for city projects, goals and needs
  • Explore funding sources to build an area wide conference center at Exit 56 on I-40
